In Vietnam 65% diabetes patients unaware of diseases

Up to 65 percent of the diabetes patients in Vietnam are unaware of their illness, local newspaper Pioneer reported on Friday, citing statistics released by the Central Hospital of Endocrine.

Over the past 10 years, the number of Vietnamese people suffering diabetes have increased three to four times in urban area. The disease has also become prevalent in rural area, where it is not widely found in the past, said Ta Van Binh, director of the hospital.

Currently, about two million people in Vietnam, aging from 30 to 60, are living with this disease and some 400,000 people have developed the retina-related diabetes, said Binh.

However, Vietnam is facing difficulties that it has not enough doctors and specialists to make diagnoses and treatment of this disease.
